Atlantic Immigration Pilot

Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

Previously launched in 2017 as a Pilot, The Atlantic Immigration Pilot was converted into a permanent program at the beginning of 2022. It is an Employer driven program that covers the 4 Atlantic provinces of Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and The Prince Edward Islands. When it was originally launched as a pilot, the idea was to help attract newcomers into the four provinces by giving them the extra incentive of reduced/relaxed requirements for gaining a Canadian Permanent Residence. The success of the program led to it being converted into a permanent program. Even now, its primary attraction lies in the fact that Immigration aspirants who are falling short of the minimum requirements under Express Entry due to language, funds, education, prior work experience, etc. may find this program to be especially beneficial.

There are three types of programs under this category and listed below are the minimum requirements under each category to gain eligibility under the AIP:

LanguageAchieve a minimum of CLB 5 for TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 jobs and CLB 4 for TEER 4 jobs 
Work ExperienceNo Work Experience RequiredMust have  worked for at least 1560 hours in the last 3 years, equaling 30 hours per week of work in a year
 Hours can be worked part time or full time as long as the above requirement gets met
Hours must be in one type of occupation but can be with different employers
The Work Experience could have been from Inside or Outside Canada
Applicant must have received payments for hours worked. Volunteering work or paid internships not eligible

Job OfferThe Employer must have been operating in any of the Atlantic provinces for at least 2 years and must be a designated employer under the AIP
Employment offer must be done through the designated IRCC form
Must be for a full time position (Minimum 30 hours per week)
The Job must not be of a seasonal nature meaning that the employee should get paid throughout the year
The Job offer should be for a minimum of 1 yearThe Job offer should be of a Permanent nature with no specified end date

Provincial Nominee Programs:

Other than the Atlantic immigration program, one can also consider the Provincial Nominee programs that are active within each Atlantic province but operate independent of the other Atlantic provinces.
