Prince Edward Island is considered to be one of the three maritime provinces along with Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. It is one of the smaller Canadian provinces that is particularly known for its beautiful beaches, wandering trails and unique outdoor experiences. It is no wonder then that the summer time sees an abundance of tourists heading to this atlantic province. The winters, on the other hand, are long and very harsh. The province has a rich history with museums dedicated to the 1864 Charlottetown conference marking the first such event that eventually led to the creation of Canada. In present times, while tourism is a big attraction, PEI also has other important industries that support its economy. With a big chunk of the province being used as farmland, potatoes are produced in abundance for export to all of North America and because of its proximity to the ocean, PEI also depends on fisheries as a major contributor to its economy. Relative to the rest of Canada PEI is considered to be densely populated but the number of people living here is still low which is why the province supports nominations to help the right people to move and settle down in the province thereby contributing to the economy in the long run.
