This Sub Category of the Human Capital Category is meant for those International Graduates who came to Canada and obtained either a Masters or a PhD degree from an eligible Ontario University. Since May-2021, the program has gone live with an Expression of Interest (EOI) based system and the applicant is required to create his/her profile on the OINP website and applicants are issued Invitations to Apply through draws every few months.
Under this stream International students with an Ontario Master’s degree from an eligible Ontario University can get an opportunity to apply and settle down in the province of Ontario. This degree should have been received through a program that is full-time and lasts at least one year. In some cases one may qualify through a part-time program if the program is considered equivalent to a full-time program. The applicant is allowed to apply under this stream if the application is being submitted within two years of the date on the degree.
The applicant must be able to prove his/her language abilities in either English or French through a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 7 or higher. Additionally, the applicant must have lived in Ontario for at least 12 months (cumulative total that includes any gaps) within the last 2 years and must also have the funds required to help support oneself and one’s dependent family members when settling down in Canada.
The applicant must also have a genuine intent to live in Ontario after gaining PR and if applying from within Canada, the applicant must have legal status at the time of applying and must maintain status until the nomination is received.
Under this stream International students with a PhD degree from an eligible Ontario University can get an opportunity to apply and settle down in the province of Ontario. This degree should have been received after at least two years of the applicant’s PhD studies were completed while legally studying in Ontario. Further, if the applicant received a grant, bursary or a scholarship for pursuing this PhD and if it requires the applicant to return back to his/her home country after earning the PhD then the applicant would not qualify under this stream. The applicant is allowed to apply under this stream if the application is being submitted within two years of the date on the degree.
There is no Language related requirement under this stream but the applicant must have lived in Ontario for at least 12 months (cumulative total that includes any gaps) within the last 2 years and must also have the funds required to help support oneself and one’s dependent family members when settling down in Canada.
The applicant must also have a genuine intent to live in Ontario after gaining PR and if applying from within Canada, the applicant must have legal status at the time of applying and must maintain status until the nomination is received.
