As an applicant, if you are convinced that the grounds for refusal of the application are either due to an oversight by the Visa officer or an innocent/clerical mistake by the applicant, one of the first steps that the applicant must consider is the process of applying for reconsideration. Under this, the applicant requests the visa officer to reevaluate the refused application with the reasoning for this request and submits any supporting documents along with an explanation for requesting the reversal of the refusal.
If the Visa officer accepts the reconsideration request and if the application actually has genuine merit to eventually receive a positive decision then this can save the applicant a lot of time, effort and money that could have gone into re applying or appealing the decision.
