International students who are graduating from PGWP eligible programs, can apply for and receive an Open Work Permit that allows them to seek full-time and permanent employment from any employer in The Canadian Job market. A PGWP duration can range from 8 months to 3 years and is decided by the visa officer who looks at the duration of the program pursued along with some other factors to decide on the PGWP expiration date.
• The applicant must have completed a PGWP-eligible program that leads to a Diploma, Certificate, or Degree and has a minimum duration of 8 months.
• The program should have been completed while maintaining full-time student status in Canada (with exceptions for either official leave from studies or switching to a part-time status in the final academic session)
• The institution should have issued the Official transcripts along with the completion letter before the PGWP application is submitted
• The applicant should have completed the PGWP-eligible program either on a legal study permit or have the authorization to study in Canada without a study permit
• The applicant must hold a valid legal status in Canada if applying for the PGWP from inside Canada.
Note: The PGWP application must be submitted within 180 days after the institute issues the final mark sheets and if the study permit expires before the PGWP application gets submitted, then the applicant must apply for status restoration along with a PGWP application within 90 days of the study permit expiry.
