As a measure towards its commitment to Family Reunification, The Canadian Government allows Canadians 2 specific means to help them bring their Parents or Grandparents to Canada and to live with them. The Super Visa Program for up to 5 years (previously 2 years) of temporary stay in Canada or The Parents or Grandparents (PGP)Sponsorship program where a Permanent Residence status gets issued for staying in Canada. Since 2017, under this program, each year Canada invites applications from interested applicants but approves only the previously announced number of applications through a lottery system. The year 2019 was an exception where IRCC used the first-come, first-served system for approving around 20,000 applications. In 2020, the lottery system was brought back again allowing applicants to submit applications over a 3 week period in the month of October.
